In 2012, International Teams expanded its global outreach into the community of Masatepe, Nicaragua. Through a process known as an asset analysis, it didn’t take long to discover that God had long been hard at work in this surprising little town. Assets, which can be people, natural resources, churches, schools, medical institutions, non-profits...the list goes on... are often overlooked because of the overwhelming needs around them, but the process of integrated community transformation strives to look past the needs and find the good that already exists, and that’s where we start working. Partnering with these existing assets allows us to see a community not just through our own limited perspective, but through the lens of many others who have mostly spent a lifetime here and are passionate about seeing transformation come about in their own community.
We began to bring these assets together with each other and with outside partners and then worked alongside them to ‘fan the flame’ with prayer, encouragement, and relationship. One outcome of bringing so many partners togethers in one collective effort has been the team that has formed around us. Today, we are a team of over 40 multinational individuals working to facilitate these partnerships. Together we operate One Collective Nicaragua, it’s four pillar businesses, and countless ministries, partnerships, and community initiatives. Beyond our local partnerships, we also have a robust team of international partners, including churches, universities, businesses and individual supporters who work year-round to make sure our team is empowered to bring people together to help the oppressed here in Nicaragua.
“If it hadn’t been for a short-term mission trip through our church, we would have likely never had the opportunity (or the desire) to visit Nicaragua.“
