“A mind that is stretched by new experiences can never go back to its old dimensions.”
- Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

OUR APPROACH

Being a global citizen defined by the Global Citizens Initiative, are individuals “who are able to be a part of the emerging world community, and whose actions contribute to building this community’s values and practices.”

As Kingdom Citizens we care deeply about our neighbors and community and are driven to build God’s Kingdom here on earth. We strive to uphold the values and practices of Jesus Christ, and we desire to demonstrate how compassion and justice, work and ministry, grace and truth; can be fused together.

As the world becomes more global, it is essential for the next generation to have intercultural knowledge and exposure. At One Collective Nicaragua, we are committed to creating opportunities for students to become not just Global Citizens, but Kingdom Citizens.

Community

HOW DO WE DO THIS?

If you’ve ever heard of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), then you're familiar with our approach. We look for the good in the world and build upon that. Our aim is not to bring something new to the community we are working with, but rather build upon what is already there and could be pushed to the next level.

We seek to understand and relate to the people we are working with and understand the community through the eyes of Jesus. We do research to understand the need and try to listen to the people around us to help where help is truly needed as well as to understand the underlying issues that a community faces. Is is about collaboration, acceptance and willingness to learn from each other, to build on each others strengths and knowledge in order to create something better and beneficial for everyone.

  • Business
  • Youth
  • Education

Our aim is not to bring something new to the communitu we are working with, but rather build upon what is already there and could be pushed to the next level.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?

An internship abroad is no small accomplishment and we recognize that there are many challenges that can come with it. We are looking for individuals who are willing and able to use their giftings and life experiences in a different context. We have found over the years that the most fruitful and rewarding experiences have occured when a student is:

  • A Christ follower
  • Has a learners posture
  • Is conversational or fluent in Spanish
  • Has had life experience abroad
  • Is studying or has completed a degree relative to the areas of ministries listed

TESTIMONIES

“I had the privilege to spend two months working with One Collective in Masatepe as their business intern. During my time, I discovered how to serve others as a vocation and was welcomed into the community. I made lasting friendships, lived with a host- family, worked on my Spanish, and was mentored by my wonderful leaders. This experience ultimately lead me to decide to move to Masatepe for an additional two-years after I graduated from college.” - Becca Noveroske
